Book Exchange

Dsc01629

I stopped at the Book Exchange alone. That car isn't mine...they just accumulate in the lots of all abandoned businesses in Baton Rouge.

I have to be honest, I was too damn scared to get any closer than this to peeking inside.

Is this a fake poster? I found no mention of a Pat Glasper in Baton Rouge on Google, nor of that slogan in Baton Rouge. And why does it look so oldey tymey, but it's posted over a sign that looks more recent?

In the late 80's that was a porn/sex toy shop with a used book store veneer. I bought a used copy of Plato's Republic there and remember the juxtaposition between it and the latex fist under the glass at the counter.

"Pat" might be a nickname for Darrel Glasper, who was on the Metro Council for a time, but that's just a guess on my part.

What's the deal with these cars? Are they just abandoned or stolen then deposited once the fun has been had? weird that there doesn't seem to be any license plates?

I really hope you at least bring mace with you to these places.

Ahh, readers have come through again...I'm loving the memories, Alex!

Michael. Hm! Maybe...?

And kartek, I do not know. They may just grow there once a building becomes abandoned.

Jules, no, but it's fine. I didn't go inside.

is that on s 19th? i swear i noticed it for the first time earlier this week... wondered if it was open... HAHHAHA

I drive past this place every day on the way home from work. I have seen people duck in and out of it now and then. I'm pretty sure it's used for some sort of illicit activities (probably just guys getting off the street to smoke rock) at least occasionally.

I think this place was orignially Cubans Liquor. It was for sale by the city because it was adjudicated property. This was about 5 years ago and the selling price was 45,000.
