Big news
Now that my news has gone out to most friends and family, I'll share it with you out there in blogland: on the afternoon of New Year's eve, the bf and I went for a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, where he proposed to me.
And so, the mystery man formerly known as the bf is no more. He is now the fiance.
It wasn't so long ago that he was roofie-ing me on our first date,
but on the other hand, since then we've been all over the country
together and we moved halfway across it.
I don't talk too much about our relationship on the blog, but let's just
say that having an extremely overworked grad student for a bf does not
always bring the height of romance. Not that I'm mooning
around reading romance novels and looking to get flowers every day, but
y'know. Sometimes romance is nice, even if you are a feminist.
Since we moved to a real house with a yard and real appliances and started having arguments about bills and other such domestic business, I already felt like we were married...kind of. Except that we'd missed out on the whole ceremony, dress, big party, presents, and honeymoon part. You know, all the fabulousness.
But since the engagement, it's been the opposite. I hadn't anticipated feeling much different, but I have noticed myself growing happier as it sinks in, hearing my fiance so happy calling all his friends and family, hearing my one friend say she was going to cry when I called with the news, another call me actually crying, and another whom jumped up and down at the news. Plus bff ecs is in town from Australia, which has made this already great trip so much better.
It was the best New Years ever and this has been the best time in New York City ever. I'll post all about it asap.

Wow! Congrats!! :) What an awesome ring & ring picture.
From reading your first date blog, I realized that I was probably at that show too. My boyfriend was doing sound for Deerhoof, and I was somewhere upstairs trying not to be blinded by the pointers.

Congratulations, again. And I mean it, even if I'm not all weepy like everyone else seems to be.
Hey wait, I just thought of something. Now I don't have to return your rings!!

I'd start jumping up and down again, but my office mates already think I'm crazy. We need to hang again before you leave town. For reals.

I was the one who cried! That was me!

"Except that we'd missed out on the whole ceremony, dress, big party, presents, and honeymoon part. You know, all the fabulousness."
For real! Being married is awesome and the presents were great too haha. My husband refers to it as our "fundraiser". Actually, we had two "fundraisers" in two separate states, which I highly recommend. That's how we bought a house-seriously. Maybe we should get married again....
Okay, back to being sentimental! Again, I am really happy for you guys! The ring is beautiful!

I really am happy for both of you, however, as an overworked grad student with a fulltime job who is getting married in just over a month. Just a word of warning. things will be difficult at times for both of you, but keep your goal in sight and just remember how happy you make each other.

Awesome!!!
I was walking through Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO during the day on New Year's Eve and the bf wanted to walk across the bridge with me - I denied him, but, if we did, we might have run into you!
I'm very excited for you!!! Congratulations!!!!

I knew before everyone else did...nananeenana!!!!
you have no idea how hard it was to keep this under wraps with a screaming title on my blog that read...
"playgirl editor so over staring at cock and balls all day, moves to baton rouge, promptly drinks cajun kool-aid and is getting married!"
Posted by: the cajun boy | January 07, 2008 at 12:46 PM

How wonderful. Congratulations!!
Brooklyn Bridge...that sounds very romantic. Seriously!
Who needs romance novels and flowers, sounds like you had just the right amount of romance this new years.

Just wanted to wish you luck living in a post-BCS-title Baton Rouge. Looks like they're going to win (it's during the 4th quarter right now) and I can only imagine how crazy and purple the city will be this week.
