Friday Roundup, Clam Chowdaaaa Edition

First I have to explain today's title. When TV's Rob Morrow of Northern Exposure hosted SNL years ago, he was in this sketch where he kept having the right thing to say, but he'd be a minute behind the conversation. So his friends would talk about, say, clam chowder, then they'd move onto another topic, then Rob Morrow would go, "'Clam chowdaaaa,' that's how they are in New England with the 'clam chowdaaa'..." and his friends would be like, "Huh? What are you talking about?"

You know, like you guys reading this right now. Anyway here's some stuff that's not right on time, but hopefully isn't too far off.

I happened upon an item on <cough>PerezHilton<cough> from last week claiming my boyfriend Josh Hartnett who totally said "hey" to me in real life may be dating...Rumer Willis. Known to some as Ms. Potato Head.

SAY IT AIN'T SO! My boyfriend Josh Hartnett was previously linked with Kirsten Dunst, known to some by the derisive nickname Snaggletooth. Being that these are considered by some to be two of the least attractive famous young ladies going, I coulda been a contender!

*

In other girl news, I thoroughly enjoyed the Lifetime Original Movie She's Too Young, about this high school girl who is too young to be gangbanging like her slutty friends. It had it all! Peer pressure, widespread syphillis outbreak, proposed four-ways, implied three-ways... Muy scandaloso. To the teachers out there in comment land...this isn't really going on now with kids everywhere, is it?

*

I am super late to the game on this, but I never got into Vice magazine because I thought it was too mean. I thought the Dos and Don'ts were hilarious but had this notion that I had to boycott the rest of the magazine. So I picked up an issue from last year and was LLOLzing all over the place. (LLOL= literal LOL)

*

Recently at CVS Crossings, I contemplated the "lady problems" aisle. Why isn't there a "masculine hygiene" department at the drugstore? Why do women have so many more issues with their downtown regions? As far as I know, dudes can get jock itch, and that's it. And if there are more, I'm happy in my ignorance. Dear Medical Science: please cure these lady problems, as you would have already if they happened to men.

*

In further girl news, last weekend I saw the remake of 3:10 to Yuma, which is a Western about how handsome Christian Bale is, and how (cougar alert) the young man who plays his son is going to be hot, but in a girly Cillian Murphy way. Bravo, Hollywood! Keep them coming.

*

I also caught a late-night showing of the 1984 film Night of the Comet, which, along with Omega Man, I have compared the often-unpopulated streets of downtown Baton Rouge to on more than one occasion.
I have never made it all the way through this movie without falling asleep, but I can tell you it has what may be film's first fast zombie (it's a kid!) as well as an end-of-the-world shopping sequence to the tune of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" sung by Not Cyndi Lauper.

*

Well, it looks like I should have named this the Girly Edition of the Friday Roundup. but then would boys and men and transgendered Americans have read it?

Finally, I found this on YouTube when looking for the Rob Morrow clip I was trying to explain above. I just adore Northern Exposure and want to crawl inside that show. Adam in this clip was ahead of his time.

Yes! Northern Exposure was such a great show. Unfortunately, I don't think any member of the cast has been as appealing on anything since. And by any member of the cast, I really mean John Corbett.

I have never seen nor heard of Northern Exposure...

Dear god, Ed was attractive on that show.

Hey CoKane,

I stumbled upon your blog recently, and have thoroughly enjoyed the posts.

Anyway, good shout out to the Rob Morrow skit (which I remember quite while), and to Northern Exposure (a great show). I live in Seattle, and have visited the town where show was filmed (Roslyn, WA) on a couple of occasions. Cute little spot...

Here's a Lioux Fun Fact:

I'm originally from New England.

And Love, Love, Love both types of Clam Chowdaaaa.

Okay.

That's two FFs.

Therese, III KNOOW. Chris in the Morning= dreamboat city

jew, WHAT? way to make me feel old. Well they might mention it on We Love the 90s or something.

Emily, yeah Ed was a cutie. Look at his grunge fashions.

Dr. R, welcome! does your moniker stand for Dr. Radical? I hope so. so glad at least one person got the SNL ref, though some friends and i have quoted that for years.

Lioux, it's great to have you back. please post as many FFs as you want.

Lol. I saw She's too young as well. I think in true lifetime form this has to be an exaggeration of high school. If you compare it to other lifetime movies, the most ridic things happen.

Ad one student once said to me when I told him he couldn't write and perform a condom commercial for communications class: "Hey, people my age are having waaaay more sex than people your age". Touche!
Also, some kids got caught having a threesome in the home ec room one evening. They had the nerve to fry up some bacon and eggs beforehand. Did I mention that I teach junior high?
It's great that most schools have switched to abstinence-based sex ed, right?

one day when i have Money to Blow i'm going to purchase the entire Northern Exposure series on DVD. the guy who played adam was also on chicago hope with mandy patinkin who was in the princess bride with christopher guest who was in a few good men with kevin bacon. that game never gets old.

My Dirty Little Secret:

I used to think, and still do actually, that Adam Arkin is cute.

CoKane,

Dr. R does stand for Dr. Radical! My favorite of the Dr. Pepper knockoffs (Dr. Thunder comes in a withdrawn second).

I got and quote Clam Chowdah, just for the record.

therese and cokane-so with you-I watched that sex-n-the-city show for aidan and still think there is a chance they will work it out because HELLO so much hotter than the other fella. I have revealed too much.

Thanks for providing a good diversion to the happenings up here.
A local middle school up here made national news for distributing contraceptives in their health center. When they talk about rainbow parties, they are not talking about Rainbow Brite themed streamers. No ma'am.

Night of the Comet is one of my favorite movies of all time. I will watch it everytime it comes on cable, as well as Center Stage, the movie about AIB ballerinas in training who perform their last ballet to Jamiroquai's Canned Heat - light years before Napolean Dynamite.

1. I loved that SNL skit. For weeks after that I never made comments on anything because I was afraid I was being that guy. I was clearly lacking self-confidence in high school.

2. I LOVE She's Too Young. That's one of my favorite Lifetime movies. However, my absolute favorite one is Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? and stars none other than Tori Spelling. Perhaps the best Lifetime movie EVER.

3. I spotted Josh Hartnett at The Hole numerous times a few years ago. (The Hole, a disgusting dirty gay bar which is on Lower 2nd Ave, is now inhabited by The Cock, also another disgusting dirty gay bar. And I mean disgusting dirty in a literal way - both places looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. They're also disgusting dirty for a variety of other reasons that I won't write so as to maintain decorum. But I will say this: The Cock moved into The Hole. Oh man, I'm juvenile.)

Am I the only person who didn't have sex until college?
