It took a village to totally win this thing

I don't know if anyone out there in the Internet-land picked up on this, but I went mental yesterday.

Poll_results It was the last day of voting in the contest to win free wedding photography from the very talented Kristina Carter of Vrai Photo, and I was obsessed with checking the results, refreshing the page over and over. I got nothing done the entire day. That is, other than WINNING!

We had voters from around the country and globe, including Australia, New Zealand, and England. And I've just learned of two celebrity voters: Mrs. Rogers, wife of the late The Mr. Fred Rogers, and a member of his neighborhood, Mr. Mc Feely! Speedy delivery, indeed. (Any comments talking trash on this point will be blocked.) This is an honor akin to Susan from Sesame Street being at my friend Julie's wedding.

Assisting me in my quest for the win were the high-larious toxic twins Irish and Jew. I was on instant messenger with Jew from 10:15 AM CST to 11:10 PM CST, with breaks only to eat, to inform each other what number we were about to make in the bathroom, and to exercise later in the day. That's the closest I've ever been to being on i.m. with one person all day.

I did ask for help, via MySpace bulletin, blog, telephone, and text message, but I swear I didn't put any of my friends up to getting as obsessed as some did, and that's how we won. (In addition to MySpace, without which I would not have been in the contest in the first place.)

Leah and Lamar went above and beyond, with a true grassroots approach, making actual phone calls in this modern Internet age. Others who got way into the contest were Karin, Shawn, and Jack.

Extra special thanks to meanieT and my cuz Erin, who posted on their mom message boards, and to everyone who forwarded our request to their personal mailing lists, like Uncle Danny, ecs, Beth, Jew, Kim, Lisa, and Shawn. Big ups to pals who posted on blogs: Beth, her sis, Cajun Kate, Jinners, Therese, Irish and Jew, Julie. Also to people who posted bulletins for us on MySpace: Therese, Heather, Jinners, Amy V Cooper, Tom Scharpling (listening to his show, The Best Show on WFMU, keeps me sane), Julie, Derik, Alistair, Lauren, and Jew. Kristina Wong had the most attention-grabbing bulletin headline in a MySpace bulletin: "I'm pregnant. Well, sort of..." then reposted about the contest. Later, in near-panic when the competition was closing in on our lead, I attempted a similar stunt, with the much lamer "Oh dear. Look at what Lindsay Lohan did now" which only ended up looking like my account got hacked. (So spammy, I might as well have mentioned farm animals.)

[as the Wrap It Up Orchestra grows slightly louder]

Anyone else I might be missing, THANK YOU! I'm cross-eyed and addled from being on the computer all day, so please forgive me.

What can I say, you all brought it. We're thrilled to have Kristina Carter to shoot our wedding. Thanks, friends and family!

(A contest-free blog post to follow later today.)

I can't believe Mr. Rogers' wife voted for you, that is SO COOL!

(I have just used too many exclamation points in one comment.)

I kinda feel bad for Sheldon and Leslie... Not necessarily that they lost, but that they lost by over 900 votes, and by over 800 from the people in #2.
